General information

A summer tradition continues...Whether you have a green horse to school or an old horse (or old legs, for that matter) to keep fit, or you are a hot-weather freak, or you want to learn our hunt country better, or enjoy our beautiful scenery, or just need your weekly "horse-people fix," Walk-and-Talks are for you!  As usual, we will start the summer slowly, and pick up the pace as the greenies get acclimated and the need to leg up hunters intensifies (heat slows but doesn't stop us).  We'll try to add some (optional) jumping for those who are interested, and there is usually someone along to help you try something new or solve a problem you encounter.  There's a "hack-and-yack" almost every Tuesday (weather and ground conditions permitting), as well as some Sundays.

 Our guidelines:

--Unless otherwise noted, all rides are at 9:00. Please double check location before each ride in case storm damage etc. causes us to relocate. Weather related decisions will be made at 7:00. We’ll try to keep the Kennel Hunt Line up to date (978-1107). Failing that, call Kay Butterfield, 823-5698.

--The schedule is published on our website calendarChanges in the schedule will be posted on the Hunt Line and the website.

--Please carry clippers -- we do our part to help clean trails.

--Sorry, your dogs may not come along.

--PROPER HEADGEAR, please.

--A negative Coggins and signed releases are “musts.” You are advised to have your emergency contact information with you or in your trailer.

--You must have signed both the Farmington and Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority waivers if you have not already, information on these can be found here.

--The rides are free for members except the joint FHC/KHC end-of-summer ride ($40, a fundraiser for both clubs).

--As always, we welcome non-members. To help defray the costs of keeping country open, we charge $10 per ride for each non-member. A season rate of $50, payable the first time you come, is available for non-members who plan to ride with us regularly. For any special circumstance, please contact Kay IN ADVANCE.

--We have a cooler tradition. We take turns replenishing the drinks and snacks.  Please volunteer.

--Be considerate of our host landowners. Do NOT clean out your trailer at the meet.

--Green horses or horses that may kick should wear a red ribbon in their tail.

--MOST IMPORTANT!  DO NOT TAKE ANY RIDE AS AN INVITATION TO EXLORE THE LAND ON YOUR OWN.  ALL PERMISSIONS TO RIDE OVER PROPERTY MUST BE OBTAINED PERSONALLY FROM THE LANDOWNER. [NOTE: NO "PLEASE" -- THIS IS A MUST!]

The annual FHC/KHC Joint Ride will be held in late August in the Farmington country. 4:30 ride, 6:00 supper.
$40 per rider; supper only $15. Whether you come to ride or just to eat and socialize, do come! It is a fundraiser for both clubs.
